DAVIDIC LEADERSHIP: Alone

1 Samuel 21:1, 4-5; 22: 9-10

Journey of leadership always starts with a man. Every journey of leadership must not be started with multitude, even if it does, it means each one must later separate from others to begin a specific task.

Though David’s reason for being alone was persecution, he would have ended up aloe one way or another so far God has a plan for him.

But the issue is not particularly about being alone what is being done during the period of “loneliness”. For David, his first stop in his journey was the House of the LORD . . . This means that his being alone only applied being separate from men. When a man on the path of/to leadership wants to be alone, it must be that he wants to be ALONE WITH GOD.

Being alone with God is the foundation a man must build his journey of leadership upon. The second issue remains what he should do when he is alone with God. As for David, he:

1. INQUIRED from the LORD to know WHO he was to become and WHAT he must do to become who he was to become. He let God determine his path . . . He subscribed to a leadership training that is perpetual; ready to learn any point on time.

2. RECEIVED STRENGTH from the LORD i.e. provision needed to start the journey well without fainting even though he was in the middle of persecution, chaos and unrest. He needed power from within and God gave it to him. HE renewed his strength like that if an eagle because he trusted in HIS counsel, hope and waited on and upon HIM.

3. RECEIVED AUTHORITY i.e. The sword for conquest in case there were obstacles and oppositions in the journey. There will always be oppositions especially on the path of leadership that JESUS pioneered for every saint to tread.

These three elements must be sought for from the LORD from time to time to ensue good success. The truth also remains that being ALONE WITH GOD is always imperative at every juncture of our lives.

Davidic Leadership is the kind of leadership that takes its ROOTS and CLUES from the LORD. It is a leadership that has its curriculum mined from the source – GOD! (Habakkuk 2:2-3).
